ArcelorMittal Liberia Pleads for Protection of Assets Amidst repeated vandalism

Marcus Wleh, Head of Sustainability and External Relations at ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML), has appealed for an end to the repeated vandalism of the company’s assets by individuals with grievances. During a recent event in Buchanan City, Wleh emphasized ArcelorMittal’s commitment to supporting the people of Liberia but warned that ongoing disruptions are hindering the company’s ability to contribute more.

Wleh conveyed a message from ArcelorMittal’s CEO, emphasizing the importance of uninterrupted operations for the company’s continued support to the community. He also clarified that the railroad, which has been frequently targeted by vandals, is a Liberian asset managed by ArcelorMittal.

The AML Head of Sustainability and External Relations highlighted the company’s significant contribution to Liberia’s revenue through tax payments and emphasized the ongoing phase two expansion project, which will include the construction of a modern concentrator for enriching Liberian iron ore.

Wleh urged Liberians to address grievances constructively, stating that peaceful communication and cooperation are essential for the company’s continued contributions to the community. He also highlighted ArcelorMittal’s donations to healthcare initiatives in Liberia, emphasizing the company’s commitment to supporting public health and safety.

ArcelorMittal Liberia’s partnership with the Liberian government has been instrumental in strengthening the country’s healthcare delivery system. The company’s consistent support for healthcare initiatives, including medical supplies, infrastructure development, and collaborative efforts with local health authorities, has contributed to improved healthcare services in the regions where it operates.
